Visit to the magical land of warmer-than-here

Im back! And I have a gold membership now, with picture-posting abilities that Im going to take full advantage of.

For the May long weekend, Bear and I decided to take a road trip to warmer-than-here. We took Friday off work and left the city on Thursday after work. Let me give you this recommendation: dont work all day and then follow it up with a 14-hour drive, its just not worth it. We took Bears truck and Im too short for it (I cant shoulder check at all, the door frame blocks my view, and I have trouble reaching the gas pedal) so Bear did the bulk of the driving but I ended up driving the darkest, foggiest, and most winding and construction-riddled stretch of highway. We arrived exhausted at Plaid and Gees place at 6 a.m. BC time and by the time I had taken off my shoes Bear had already jumped into bed.

Doesnt this just make you want to pick up and move there?

We woke up the next morning (Bear first, as usual) and spent the day hanging out with Plaid while Gee was at work. We went shopping and visited Aunt Dars apartment (which included a scarily fat white cat) and then took a short walk (cross Mosscrop!) to Gees work. After going through security, Gee took us on the grand tour and we met a few of his co-workers.

Back at home, Gee introduced us to the game Pirates Cove which was soooo fun (I should invest in it). We ordered Chinese take-out and had the worlds best honey garlic chicken-balls; seriously I could eat a bucket of them. Bear went out for a bit with his friend Squid so Plaid and I played with the The Utah Baby Namer (http://www.wesclark.com/ubn/) to make up a list of the funniest ones. We actually grouped them into new categories.

All 6 of us

Saturday Bear and I went to visit Roscoe and Smelly. We rang the buzzer for their apartment and stood there expecting to be buzzed in. We were pleasantly surprised to see Smelly running down the stairs and flinging herself into hugs, closely followed by a smiling Roscoe. The four of us took a nice stroll through The Crescent (not just a crescent but THE crescent). It was all lush and green and filled with gigantic trees.

We spent a good 20 minutes playing in a big purple bush (rhododendrons, I think) and then wandered down the hill to Granville Island.

We spent a while killing time in the Grandville Island Brewery, enjoying the maple cream ale (mmmm) before meeting Plaid and Gee at the Cats Meow where I enjoyed the best salad I have ever tasted: fresh greens with almonds, and blackberry vinaigrette dressing. We then wandered back to Smelly and Roscoes place to watch a movie.

Sunday we went to church with Plaid and Gee, and then the 6 of us took a lovely trip to Stanley Park. We played in the sun and sand and waded in the ocean.

We saw crabs and geese and swans and ducks and racoons and many cool new plants.

We walked all the way down to the totem poles and back through the forest.

Later we had a delicious take-out pizza dinner and played BANG!, another fun new game. Rivalries were established and renewed, people were shot and killed, theres nothing quite like a quiet evening shooting your friends.

We left early Monday morning to beat the rush-hour traffic. Luckily we also beat the partial closure of the Coquihalla that left traffic backed up for miles. We arrived back home in the sunshine, wishing that we hadnt left the land of green and warmer-than-here so soon.

This trip made me realize how much I miss all of the friends that keep moving away. I miss late night talks geeking out with Smelly, and living with Roscoe, and all of the teasing and laughter of games with Gee and Plaid. I miss my family of friends that are spreading out farther and farther over the world.

Thanks for reading despite the long absence!
